*Meekly jumps on the meme bandwagon*
Hinenuitepo of Death Goddess seems to be the one to introduce a DPS meme. There’s been the healing survey, the original, from Miss Medicina, and a tanking survey, from Koriel of whatisboom?, and we finally have a DPS survey.

What is the name, class, and spec of your primary dps?

Fae, Hunter, Marksman (with a BM dual spec for soloing)

What is your primary dpsing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans)

Mostly raids though at the moment I’m guildless so I tend to be forced to pug raids right now, sometimes 5 mans though not a lot of grouping going on currently. Hoping to get into a guild and change that soon.

What is your favorite dps spell/ability for your class and why?

Can I choose Feign Death? There’s nothing better than “PRETEND TO DIE!” Especially when you’re with a low geared or lazy tank, I’m like some kind of threat bomb. Otherwise I guess Explosive Shot, I know I don’t play Survival anymore but the timing of Lock and Load is fun to play around with.

What dps spell do you use least for your class and why?

Probably Deterrence.. I’m an idiot and forget to use it when I really probably should. I’m always told how awesome it is, but, I guess it’s a part of how much I suck at PvP.

What do you feel is the biggest strength of your dps class and why?

I’d say being able to Misdirect a little of your threat onto the tank, Feigning to drop aggro when it’s needed, and being able to crank out some really good damage.

What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your dps class and why?

I’m going to say weapons. There isn’t one weapon that another class will think “oh well, that’s one for the hunters”, because now we either have to fight the 2hander crowd, who I think would actually tear your head off if you took their Betrayers and so on, then there’s the ferals, who say how the DPS from that weapon benefits them a lot more then us hunters. Woot. So we get the cast offs. I’m not accepting “but you get the ranged weapons” as an excuse because rogues/warriors get dibs on any thrown weapons, druids and death knights get their own ranged slots, yet we still have to wait for cast offs. Though I’m not saying it should change because it is fair, but that’s my perspective. Also, Volley breaks weapons.

In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best dps assignment for you?

Whichever target is tanked by the tank with the most threat to be honest! As I said, threat bomb. Though honestly, it doesn’t really matter too much, I can put my pet on the melee target, while I go on the ranged, or I can go on the melee target. I can single target, AoE, have enough shots to damage while moving. So, as long as I’m not told I should sit in the corner, it’s not too important in my opinion.

What dps class do you enjoy dpsing with most and why?

This question can be interpreted in 2 ways. The first being which DPS class do I to play my hunter alongside, and the second which one do I prefer playing overall.

  1. Probably a good sundering warrior, and an enhancement shaman. Reduced armour and yummy totems make me happy.
  2. Hunter. I do enjoy shadow priest a lot, but I’ve been known to grow bored of shadow priest, not of hunter.

What tanking class do you enjoy dpsing with least and why?

I don’t actually care as long as I’m not pulling aggro from them even when I spam Misdirect, and they don’t die too easily. I’m used to prot paladins because of Dan. Death knights at the beginning of Wrath freaked me out a little because they were using DPS weapons and didn’t turn into any kind of giant fluffy animal! That’s just wrong. I guess feral druid tanks, they had really bad threat mechanics for so long, I’ve noticed the decent bears have got a lot better at threat now, but they’re still limited to AoE tanking. I feel bad for them but I guess it’s the tanking class which I’ve met with the most fail in PUGs.

What is your worst habit as a dps?

Being so used to Dan’s awesome threat and such that I forget not all tanks have Heroic Trial gear and get lazy with Misdirects.. *whistles*

What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while dpsing?

When the tank moves the multiple mobs out of my Volley area! Stop it!

Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other dps?

I think so, hunters seem to be at a good point DPSwise. I’m really quite happy with the class as a whole.

What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a DPS?

Omen I suppose counts, and Recount. WWS if the guild I’m in uses it but they don’t always. I check Recount a lot though to make sure I’m doing okay, if not, I get reading.

What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your class?

  1. Huntards are all so stupid
  2. Hunter’s easy, all you have to do is spam one button.

What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new dpsers of your class to learn?

I think it can be difficult for new hunters to learn which stats to go for. I’ve seen a lot of gemming and enchanting for haste and crit when it’s not needed, people don’t always know when to gem for AP/ARP/AGI, and it can be a little complicated to find out without being told, for new players that is.

What dps class do you feel you understand least?

Warrior, I’ve never played one past 25, which I sadly deleted to make an alliance character on my realm which I again later deleted to make another warrior. I zone out when they’re spoken about amongst friends, I’ve never read into the class and I generally don’t have a clue. Shame though, I’d like to try it.

What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in dps?

They should be all in my hunter guides pages. Addons I use Hunter Timers, Omen, OmniCC, Quartz (Forte for my priest). Macros, I use a Misdirect macro, pet follow and pet attack macro so I don’t have to click, Kill Command and Silencing Shot tied in with Chimera and Aimed, stopcasting Feign, and a quick Aspect switch.

[Your class’s preferred basic stat] over other stats or balanced stat allocation, and why?

Generally, when it comes to gemming and enchanting, you’ll go for agility. Unless you’re BM then perhaps not, unless that’s changed now, I don’t know. However, if there’s an agility socket bonus, needing a yellow gem, agility crit. Sometimes it can be wise to gem for armor pen, but I can never understand people who gem for haste of any kind because it’s almost useless for hunters, and full crit gems.. agi/crit I understand but full crit gems I can’t understand at all why anybody would think they’re worth using.

Gonna tag Saresa at Destructive Reach, and Cassandri at Hots & Dots, interested to see your responses 🙂
